At first, I thought something was wrong with me. Maybe I’d lost motivation. Maybe I was burnt out.
But as I sat with it, I realised it wasn’t that simple. The mission of the organisation hadn’t changed; it still mattered deeply to me. But the way it was being led was shifting.
The tone, the decisions, and the pace all began to move in directions that didn’t quite fit the values that had once anchored me there. That made it harder to see clearly. Was it me who’d changed, or the environment around me?
In truth, it was both.
I was evolving... acknowledging my priorities and ways of leading that mattered to me, while the organisation was moving in its own new rhythm and direction.
What I felt was the space between those two realities widening.
That realisation wasn’t easy, but it was freeing.
It helped me understand that finding purpose isn’t about chasing something new; it’s about noticing when the shape of your contribution needs to change.
Sometimes that means leaving. But often, it starts smaller, with an honest conversation about what energises you now, or a choice to show up differently in the work you already have.
You may not need to leave your job. You might just need to jump off the wheel of survival and connect with yourself and the conscious contribution you want to make.
